A Short Guide to Fabric Dye

Project Type: Motion Graphics

Role: Illustrator, Animator

Client: Self-Exploration

Deliverables: Storyboard, Animated Video

Date: Fall 2025

I began by researching RIT’s brand, product line, and instructional materials across their website and packaging. Using this information, I wrote a script and created a sketched storyboard to define pacing and visuals. I then recorded the voiceover, gathered visual references, and developed a custom illustration style. In Adobe After Effects, I pre-composed all graphic elements, using gradients, lighting, and effects to add depth. I animated the sequence, incorporated subtitles for accessibility, and used particle systems and stylized transitions to enhance clarity. Finally, I added music and sound effects to establish a cohesive and engaging soundscape.

This animated explainer breaks down how to dye clothing at home using original illustration and motion design. It offers a simple, beginner-friendly process while encouraging viewers to refresh old garments and embrace more sustainable habits.

I set out to create a short-form animated explainer video optimized for digital platforms like YouTube and Instagram. The topic focused on illustrating the benefits and process of using RIT fabric dye. My goal was to produce a clear, engaging, and educational piece that combined illustration, motion design, and accessible storytelling.

The final video is a clear, visually polished explainer that communicates the dyeing process in an accessible, engaging format.
